Dereck St Clair, Head of Hotel Operations
“Many years ago, I joined Henley as a Consultant Chef on a six-month contract; I have never looked back! I grasped the many training opportunities that working for Henley offered: developing the skills and knowledge to run the Food & Beverage operation; then our Courier & Postal business; the Security operation; and our Audio-Visual Services – before being offered my current position as Head of Hotel Services. Extremely grateful for these opportunities, and proud of my own achievements, I also highly value and appreciate the enduring influence that our supportive organisation has had on our extended ‘Henley family’, which over the years has included highly talented individuals from many different countries, cultures, and backgrounds.”
Jaime Alto, Front of House Manager
“I joined the team, on a part-time basis, six years ago when I was over from Canada on a working holiday visa. I was delighted when the opportunity arose for me to return in a full-time capacity – and have been leading the Front of House team for the past five years.”
Dhanu Thapa, Supervisor, Household Department
“Originally employed as a Household Assistant in 2012, I was promoted to Supervisor in 2015. When I first started, I was in awe of the surroundings and continually took photographs of the changing seasons! Henley’s Greenlands campus is a fantastic place to work. I have always found colleagues extremely friendly and helpful. All the departments work together as part of a team, with one goal in mind – delivering exceptional customer service. I feel that my voice is always heard here and I continue to develop within my role, feeling valued and appreciated in all that I do.”
Marco Bernardino, Deputy Catering Services Manager
“My first job outside of Portugal was with Henley – and that was 17 years ago. I started in Housekeeping, moved into Catering and have worked my way up from Catering Assistant to where I am now. The opportunity to live in and improve my English was what brought me over in the first place – but the opportunities for progression are why I have stayed.”
Customer Feedback
“We both had the best time and that was down to the care and attention to detail each and every team member showed in the run up to the wedding and on the day.”
“All our friends and family commented on how helpful the staff were from the lovely team at breakfast who suggested taking some fruit for later as it was a long day and my mum was running around a bit too much to eat! To the amazing food and service at the wedding breakfast.”
Paul Rodrigues, Catering and Conference Services Manager
“I started out as a Trainee Chef and worked my way up to Catering Manager. The people are amazing – this is a great place to work with a rich history and a wonderful setting”.
“Matthew and I had a fantastic day and thanks to the staff at Greenlands it all went smoothly and everything was very well organised. All members of staff were incredibly professional and please pass on our thanks to everyone working on the day. Many guests commented on how amazing the venue was and how good the staff were.”
Roland Kemble, Sous Chef
“I started as a Trainee Chef; now I’m a Sous Chef. Our menus and functions are so different – it makes our jobs exciting.”
Maria Angela Perez, Team Leader
“Just happy here! I planned to stay for one year… now I’ve been working here for six years as a Team Leader in the Restaurant. If you are looking for stability, progression and a fair salary – this is your place.”
